The Kingston Humane Society (KHS) has been a dedicated advocate for animal welfare in the Kingston area for 140 years. For the past 30 years, the KHS has operated out of a building originally designed for manufacturing, retrofitted to house animals, and intended to serve only the city of Kingston. We now provide pound services to 10 municipalities, expanding our service area to nearly 6,000 square kilometers.
This expansion has led to virtually constant overcrowding, making it difficult to control outbreaks of kennel cough and feline upper respiratory infections.
The Kingston Humane Society is in crisis.
A new facility would bring about lasting, positive outcomes in every single department of the KHS allowing us to save, treat, house and place more animals.
A new building will not only increase our capacity to care for the growing number of abandoned, abused, neglected, and injured animals, but it will also transform our approach to animal welfare.
By integrating advancements in veterinary medicine, shelter design, and animal care, we can:
Reduce Length of Stay:
Improved facilities will help reduce the time animals spend in the shelter.
Increase Adoptions:
A better environment will make animals more adoptable.
Expand Programming:
We can offer a more diverse range of programs to serve our community better.
A new shelter will not only improve the lives of the animals but also strengthen our community by providing a resource for education and engagement.
